Introducing the Pathfinder: The Next Evolution in Bushcraft Knives
At Real Steel, we are proud to introduce our newest addition to our already-impressive bushcraft knife lineup - the Pathfinder. Designed by Ivan Braginets, a specialist in outdoor knives, the Pathfinder is a folder that we believe will set a new standard for bush folders.
Edge Angles: Precision for Every Task
Explore the unique edge angles of our knives:
· The Folder: Featuring a 14-degree edge, this offers razor-sharpness, ideal for everyday carry and light tasks.
· The Fixed Blade: Boasting a classic 26-degree edge, it strikes the perfect balance between sharpness and edge retention.
Important Note:
Our knives are designed for specific uses. The folder is perfect for softer tasks, but using it for heavy-duty activities like cutting hard woods may cause the edge to roll and lead to issues. For tougher tasks, we recommend our Pathfinder Bushcraft Fixed Knife, specifically designed for more demanding challenges.
Blade Design: Precision and Functionality
The Pathfinder's blade features a Scandi grind, renowned for its ability to excel at woodwork. This grind creates a wedge-shaped profile that makes it easy to penetrate wood fibers, resulting in clean, effortless cuts.
- Excellent Gripping Jimping: Ensures a secure hold during use.
- Thumb Studs & Nail Groove: Both ensure easy blade deployment.
- Rounded Spine Edges: Small yet essential detail to ensure comfort and reduce fatigue during prolonged use or heavy force application.
Handle Design: Lightweight and Comfortable
The Pathfinder knife boasts a lightweight frame thanks to its skeletonized design. This makes it an excellent choice for outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize light gear without compromising performance.
Key Features:
- Engraved Grooves: Provide an optimal, secure grip, enhancing comfort during extended use, whether you're cutting through rope or preparing a meal.
- Closed Backside: Protects the blade from dirt, debris, and other environmental elements, ensuring the knife stays clean and sharp for use whenever you need it.
Locking Mechanism: Slide Lock for Maximum Security
One standout feature of the Pathfinder is the Slide Lock, a rarely seen locking mechanism on bush folders. This mechanism ensures the blade remains securely in place during use, allowing the user to confidently tackle tough outdoor tasks. The Slide Lock is one of the strongest available, providing maximum security even under the most challenging conditions.
Carrying Options: Convenience and Versatility
The Pathfinder has been designed with carrying ease in mind:
- Lanyard Hole: For easy attachment to a backpack or belt.
- Deep Carry Pocket Clip: Reversible to accommodate both tip-up and tip-down carrying positions, ensuring versatility for all users.

Calling this “Bushcraft” is misleading since you can’t use this to strike a ferro rod due to the “the small detail of the blade spine as its edges are slightly rounded down”. Otherwise, what makes this bushcraft? Everything else outlined in this article just talk about pretty much any other knife.
Can’t wait to get my hands on this beauty. Looks very promising. Is the handle Micarta?
